Scope: Project was a complete “down to the studs” renovation that reconfigured the entire station floorplan. The scope of work included 14 individual bunk rooms, 6 individual restroom/shower rooms, kitchen, workout facilities, firefighting gear storage, offices, day room, decontamination/washroom, and workshop.  The apparatus bay and exterior parking facilities were upgraded to accommodate a new ladder truck and new ambulances.  One of the main challenges of the project was keeping the fire station operational throughout the construction period. The Fire Department required that a crew of six Firefighters operate out of the station at all times. To maintain uninterrupted emergency services, the project was divided into two phases. This approach allowed half of the station to remain in operation while the other half was under construction. Some of the unique challenges of this project included: Maintaining HVAC, fire station alerting systems, water, sewer, electrical, and internet service to the occupied half of the station while these systems were being replaced in the other half posed significant challenges; ensuring that construction operations did not compromise station functionality by setting up temporary facilities including gym, turnout gear storage,  and laundry facilities; designing the new kitchen and water heaters in new location of the building to allow existing facilities to be operational until new areas were ready to occupy; Hazardous material abatement work required special measures to protect fire station personnel
